March 2018

Late March 2018 – the snow is slowly disappearing and the days are getting warmer. But the nights are still cold and it is starting to rain more often. Roads are muddy and it is impossible to find a stray dog that isn't wet to the bone.

Anca was, like every morning, on her way to a feeding spot in Trusesti. But this morning something was different.

Anca did not only bring food and treats with her, but also anti-worm drugs and spot-on against fleas and ticks. These medications were provided to her by “Pfotenhilfe ohne Grenzen e.V.” and thus Anca will be able to treat many the stray dogs in the near future.

Like always her first stop is the infamous parking spot some distance from Trusesti's city limits, where dogs are being abandoned time and time again. Three familiar furry faces were already waiting for her, in addition to a new dog soul – an older and very thin dachshund lady. She was emaciated and her gaze was filled with desperation. It's certain that she wouldn't have been able to survive on the streets for long.

We called her Emma.
(Emma quickly found a foster home in Germany and was already able to leave Romania behind.)

Several days later Anca would find Gica on the same parking lot. Most likely he was also abandoned here and left to fend for himself. Gica is a very sweet, people oriented young male dog. We assume he is around one year old.

Every morning Gica is now waiting for Anca on this parking lot, for his daily rations of food and of course affection. Anca made sure that Gica was vaccinated and he will soon be castrated, too.

We're now looking for a new family for Gica that will care for him and never let him down. Even local press was reporting about this “Friendship”.

Next was the feeding spot close to a gas station. It's the living space of a small female dog and her four young. As soon as the little ones won't be needing their mother any more, Anca is going to have the mother dog castrated.

After that follow several more stops in the side alleys of Trusesti. And every time Anca is already being awaited by wistful fur-noses. As far as they allow the treatment, all stray dogs are going to be treated with anti-worm and tick medication.

There's an around knee-height fluffy-mix boy visible at the end of the video. His name is Bobby.

Bobby is most likely a tibetan-terrier mix and around three years old, vaccinated and castrated. He's a bit shy at first when it comes to initiating contact with strangers, but learns to trust quickly and gets really cuddly. Bobby gets along well with other dogs and tries to stay out of conflict and drama.

Bobby also visits the feeding spot daily, hoping for some pets and a little bit of affection.

We're looking for a new family that wants to care for this little boy
and sticks by him through good and bad times.

One of the feeding spots is near a garbage disposal site. There a young shy dog is hiding and waiting for his daily ration of dry feed. It later turned out that he had an injured ear. Sadly he was too skittish to be treated directly. Anca is going to spend the next days trying to win his trust so he can be treated medically.

During the next few days Anca was able to treat the puppy's ear.
She will continue to monitor it daily until the injury has healed.

Next stop: Anca's workplace and directly opposite the children's home. Here the fur-noses , and also the kids, are already waiting for her. The adolescents are willing to help and lend Anca their hands, report about things that happened or if one of the dogs got injured.

Smiley and Gipsy also came running.

Sadly Smiley hasn't been seen for a few days. She also didn't turn up at the feeding spots in the morning. We hope that nothing bad has happened to her and that she will reappear soon.

The sweet white Sheep has already found her own family and was able to move in with them.

Gipsy

We're currently looking for a nice family that wants to adopt Gipsy.
Here you'll be able to access her contact page with her story, pictures and videos.

And there was a new female dog quickly approaching – Paula. She's around one year old and has been living at the children's home for the last few months. Paula is friendly towards everyone, loves children, enjoys being petted thoroughly and gets along well with her fellow dogs. She's castrated, already vaccinated and has beautiful eyes.

Here you'll be able to access her contact page with her story, pictures and videos.

In regular intervals Anca also visits Ion's strays. On this say she also treated “his” dogs with medication against worms, fleas and ticks.

Of course Anca didn't continue on her way without leaving one or two bags of dry feed with Ion.

Early April Anca was joined on her daily feeding round by Yvonne, Nicole and Anke from the association “Tierschutz Euskirchen e.V.” (in course of their visit at Ador). This is were all three women met up with the head of the children's home and of course with the kids and the stray dogs living on the premise. And all of them were overjoyed to see with how much love the kids show towards the stray dogs. They praised the Trusesti-castration-project, as well as the good nutritional and health status of the dogs living in that area.

On the way back Anca naturally stopped at the well known parking lot a bit outside of Trusesti. When she was feeding the strays, two new faces decided to join: a small female dog with what appeared to be her son. Both dogs were covered in ticks and it looked like both of them had to fend for themselves for quite a while.

Yvonne, Nicole and Anke decided to call them Flora and Radu and sponsored their vaccination and castrations.

(Radu was quickly able to find his new family and was able to leave Romania. But sadly Flora was too weak and lost her battle for survival.)

But even after Anca's feeding tour through Trusesti, conversations or sadly sometimes confrontations with residents , there's no time to rest – actually it's the opposite. Even in Botosani in the vicinity of Anca's house there are hungry cats waiting for her every day.

Another example would be Fetita. Fetita is an around seven year old medium sized female dog with a gigantic tumor growing on her belly. She is living near Anca's former school in Botosani is is currently cared for by teachers. But they didn't know how to help Fetita with this tumor, they did not know.
Thus a lady called Anca and asked for help.

Anca talked to the teachers, as well as the principal, and all were willing to help Fetita. A date for the medical procedure was arranged and many donated to make payment for Fetita's procedure and post-treatment and special food possible. There was even a room in the school made available for Fetita where she was able to rest and recover after the operation.

Every day, Anca looks after Fetita after her own work day and feeding round through Tusesti. She checks and treats the scar. Post-treatment will take some more time, but we hope that Fetita will be able to enjoy a long and healthy life afterwards. And will be able to move freely around the school grounds.
